Our study of ACTS has finished, and now is the time to sign up for the next study on I Peter. The books are being shipped to St. Timothy and will be here in the next couple of days. They are $5.00 each. Sign up on the clipboard in the narthex or in class. Classes will not start until July 27th due to time pressures and the Council Meeting on July 20th. The study is from the ‘Book of Faith’ curriculum from Augsburg-Fortress. I Peter was probably for a more general audience of churches, rather than for one specific church. It brings Peter’s perspective to bear on issues and concerns that he did not have the opportunity to address during his lifetime.
Pastor Johnson invites you and your friends to take part in a new weekday book study, By Heart: Conversations with Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. This course offers a fresh look at one of the most formative instructional tools of the Lutheran Church.
Before you run away in horror at the word “catechism,” give this little book a chance. For more than 500 years, Luther’s Small Catechism has been a staple in biblical learning and faith formation. It is clear, concise, and inspiring—pointing readers toward scripture, worship, and prayer.
Whether you are new to the Lutheran tradition or simply want to revisit the roots of your faith, this study is a great opportunity. If you came to the Lutheran Church as an adult and wonder what sets this denomination apart, this is an excellent place to learn.
The course focuses on three key areas:
Scripture & Tradition – exploring the biblical texts and Christian traditions behind teachings like the Ten Commandments and the Apostles’ Creed.
Luther’s Explanations – discovering how Luther’s simple yet profound explanations still speak today.
The Reformation Backstory – understanding the historical context and personal story of Martin Luther.
A distinctive feature of By Heart is its “For You” focus—addressing readers directly, reflecting the down-to-earth, gospel-centered language Luther himself used.
This weekday study begins mid-September. Participant books are $15 each. Depending on interest, we plan to offer:
Tuesday evenings (online)
Thursday mornings (in Young Hall)
Come, grow deeper in faith, and be inspired by this timeless Christian classic.
We invite children to come to Friendship Hall right after worship time. Inside, children can use the restroom if needed before class. Classes begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be kept short for now. Children younger than 6th grade will meet every other week with Ms. Mary Sue and Ms. Christine in the “Welcome Room” and the children in 6th grade and above will meet with Pastor Johnson in the large classroom at the north end of Friendship Hall.
